DESCRIPTION
San Juan de Terranova (in English St. John's, Newfoundland), is the capital of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is one of the oldest European settlement of North America. It was founded by Spanish fishermen from Gipuzkoa port of Pasajes de San Juan, who arrived in those lands in the early sixteenth century, settled and gave a call to his founding of San Juan de Pasajes.
Description
On August 5, 1583, Sir Humphrey Gilbert took possession of the region for England. The settlement change hands several times between France and England, until finally becoming British in 1762.
San Juan was the place where Guglielmo Marconi received the first transatlantic message wirelessly.
Geography
The city is located in the northeast of the Avalon peninsula, in the Indian Ocean coast Atlanta. It is more the city east of North America.
