DESCRIPTION
Whistler, British Columbia, is an Alpine resort located at 50 degrees latitude, 122 degrees of longitude approximately two hours by road north of the city of Vancouver in British Columbia.
It is considered the largest ski resort in North America and the world's best Alpine resort according to the magazine Ski Magazine. It consists of two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb together in the center of a villa designed for pedestrians. Together the two mountains has more than 200 ski slopes of various difficulties, 5 snowboarding parks and pipes 3, 3300 hectares passable, an average of 10 meters of snow per year. There are 38 cable car allowing access to a height of 1609 meters above sea level. Due to the large number of cable car has the capacity to house 61407 skiers per hour.
Description
The stable population in the village of Whistler is approximately 9,965 habitants. More than two million people visit Whistler annually, mainly for its ski resorts and alpine terrain suitable for mountain biking. Whistler is located on Highway 99, about 44 kilometres north of Squamish. The village has received numerous awards for design and has been voted among the best destinations in North America by major ski magazines over the past fifteen years.
Season Opening
The ski season usually starts in late November and ends in Whistler at the end of April and in late Mayo.Las Blackcomb hours of operation vary with the seasons and light conditions, but usually fluctuate between 8.30 am 4 pm. At that time is interrupted cable service and skiers are invited to lose the two mountains. The nightlife in the village of Whistler is composed of a large number of restaurants, bars and nightclubs that have their heyday in the winter season.
2010 Winter Olympics
Whistler resort will be the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics and the Paralympics. The Olympic village and Paralympic Games also known as the athletes village is home to 2400 athletes, coaches and representatives of delegations. At the end of the event the village will be empowered as a residential neighborhood.
