Reynosa's intriguing gastronomy is a blend of incredibly fish and seafood from the Gulf Coast, with traditional succulent steaks and baby goat from the north and even a small Tex-Mex influence as well. Traditional fare includes such dishes as excellent cuts of beef, salads, steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes with gravy.

There are many established bars in Reynosa, all with an excellent level of service and hospitable owners who really know how to treat their customers like kings. Like most of the border cities in northern Mexico, beer is the drink of choice for both the locals and visitors to Reynosa. Because of its proximity to the US, there is a definite American (predominantly Texan) influence in both the music and the ambiance of the many nightclubs.

When visiting this city of contrasts in the north of Mexico, it's necessary to choose the right clothes to wear because of the extreme weather. During summer, the temperature can get higher than 100°F in the "comfortable" shade, while in winter the average is around 10 degrees. Light clothing is a necessity in July, just as coats and thermal underwear are essential around Christmas time. If you suddenly realize you've forgotten to bring something in your luggage then there's no better excuse to go shopping in the fantastic malls of Reynosa. These large complexes of retail and department stores, food courts and entertainment are just like the best American shopping malls.
