Cancun and the surrounding region feature some of the
best places in the world to snorkel and dive. The undersea world here is nothing
short of brilliant! Thousands of multi-colored fish and beautiful coral are
among the treats waiting for visitors. The water is warm and generally very
calm.
TIP
Divers should note that spear fishing is illegal, as is taking sponges or coral.
Do not remove objects found on sunken boats.
Here are some of the diving sites the we recommend:
Palancar Reef
It's one the world's largest and is considered to be one of top diving spots in
the hemisphere. It is a combination of many different coral formations, each
with its own characteristics. Stretching over three and one half miles, about a
mile off shore and tops a sloping wall which descends to a maximum depth of over
3000 feet.
Columbia Reef
3 km south of Palancar reef In the giant chasms, sea turtles and eagle rays
float sporadically past unsuspecting divers. The closest thing to mountains in
Cozumel is Columbia Reef! Another impressive drop-off at 60-80 feet. Deep diving
at its finest. Columbia is comprised of a series of gigantic coral pinnacles
(most over 90 ft. tall) marked with caves, tunnels and caverns.
Breathing Observation Bubble
Spectacular visibility is achieved using a clear acrylic, air-filled dome
mounted on the headpiece. There is no need for a regulator, just breathe
normally! Air is constantly supplied to the dome from a scuba tank attached to
the front of BOB's body.

BOB the "Breathing Observation Bubble" enables you to
dispense with scuba gear to cruise amongst reefs and fish. Spectacular
visibility is achieved using a clear acrylic, air-filled dome mounted on the
headpiece. There is no need for a regulator, just breathe normally! Air is
constantly supplied to the dome from a scuba tank attached to the front of BOB's
body. The driver sits comfortably astride a seat under which ballast weights are
secured. BOB is powered by a 40lb. thrust electric motor and a rechargeable 12
volt battery, both are housed under the seat. Combined they provide a top speed
of 2.5 knots. A steering wheel and instrument console provides full control and
system monitoring.
BOB is fully equipped with all the electrical and air
equipment required. All that is needed is a scuba tank, 50lbs. of divers
ballast. In BOB your head and shoulders are in a bubble of air that is being
constantly fed from a scuba tank. You are subject to the same effects from the
increasing and decreasing pressure as you would be if you were diving with a
mask and regulator. You need to know and use the standard techniques for
pressure equalization and respect the same safety rules to counter the effects
of pressure.
BOB requires less physical exertion. This enables a
BOB diver to experience the benefits of the underwater world while driving and
viewing sea life without any encumbrance.
